"They're taking over..." image used on the webcam page

The Bungie.net Webcams were webcams posted around Bungie's office in Kirkland during the 2000s. The webcams were used to sometimes give users hints at what Bungie is working on, random jokes, Soffish, Pentathlons, and more. Bungie West also had a webcam at their offices in 1999.[1]

"Take a peek into our fortress of world domination with not one, but three sporadically functioning webcams. See our entrance hallway, a server room, and an occassional bonus shot!"

Users on Bungie.org would share photos from the webcams on the Marathon Story page and through submitting news, whereas, users on Bungie.net posted about the webcam getting updated so often that eventually the Bungie Webcam thread[2] was created to house all webcam discussion. In 2010, stosh inserted the cam feeds directly into the OP of the thread.[2]

Videos of Bungie Webcam pictures from Bungie's website. They were captured over the first week of February 2001 and were created by Robert Chrzanowski and a friend.[21] Other movies can be found here.[22]

Trivia[]

  • Prior to the launch of Bungie.net's "New Hotness" update, there was only one webcam called the "Bungie Webcam Goodness."[23]
  • When the Bungie Webcam was first active in the late 1990s and early 2000s, fans would watch for glimpses of Soffish, becoming so popular that Bungie named the Bungie Webcam site "soffish.bungie.com" before it was put under the "Inside Bungie" area.
  • The offline image for a camera was the H2 Secrets Cam?[24]
  • A series of "webcam games" were hosted in 2007. Winners of the games were given the forum title "Webcam MVP."
  • Users began referring to the mysterious Bungie contractor who hosted the webcams games as "Mr. Hand" due to the fact that the only body part users could see was the employee's hand.
  • Mr_Hand stated within a Webcam MVP private Group that Achronos did not care for the title. As a result, there were only ever seven Webcam MVPs.
