High Moon Studios

High Moon Studios (HMS) is a video game developer currently owned by Activision. It worked on Destiny 2 and its third expansion, Forsaken.[1]

Partnership With Bungie[]

High Moon Studios was first mentioned as working with Bungie on Destiny through a job posting on their website in May 2016.[2] Bungie confirmed the partnership in their weekly This Week at Bungie blog post.[3] In October of that year, they were mentioned as helping Bungie work on Destiny's then-2016 sequel by working on cut Mars content from The Taken King expansion.[4] In the meantime, they created new Strikes in the first game.[5]

Activision CEO Eric Hirshberg said in a June 2017 interview about Destiny 2 and other games. In it, he explained that Activision wasn't satisfied with Destiny's content droughts, which is why they were bringing Vicarious Visions and High Moon Studios in to help Bungie create Destiny 2 content.

"One of the things you'll see post the launch of Destiny 2, is that we have got additional AAA developers from inside the Activision ecosystem working with Bungie on Destiny content, including Vicarious Visions and High Moon. That will allow us to keep an even more robust pipeline of content in the ecosystem," Hirshberg said.[6][7]

It was confirmed in 2018 that HMS was working on Destiny 2's first expansion, Forsaken, by creating the Tangled Shore destination, Scorn enemy combatants, and the expansion's story.[5]
