Pete Parsons is a long-time Bungie executive, current Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Bungie[1][2] and the Bungie Foundation,[3] and a member of the Board of Directors of both companies.[3][4]
Bungie History
Parsons came to Bungie from Microsoft in 2002 as an executive producer and studio manager. After working on the hit sequels Halo 2 and Halo 3, Parsons had a brief stint as an executive producer for Microsoft before joining Bungie's spinoff from Microsoft (along with most of the rest of Bungie) to become an independent developer.
He left Bungie in 2006[5] after completing pre-production of Halo 3 and developing a partnership between Microsoft and Peter Jackson, and co-founded Fyreball (which eventually became Meteor Solutions),[6][7] a technology company that provided a variety of social marketing services to large companies like Microsoft, AT&T, and MTV Networks.
Parsons returned to Bungie sometime in 2008,[8] becoming the company's director of marketing.[9] He left Meteor Solutions in 2012.[3]
On January 27, 2016, Bungie announced that its Board of Directors had appointed Parsons to the role of chief executive officer.[1][2]
Under Parsons' tenure as CEO, Bungie launched Destiny 2, sought Chinese online gaming company NetEase to invest more than $100 million in Bungie,[10] ended Bungie's publishing deal with Activision,[11][12] opened Bungie's first international office in Amsterdam,[13] signed a lease for two floors in downtown Seattle at the 2+U tower for 300 employees,[14] announced culture improvements after IGN released an article about Bungie's toxic work culture,[15][16] made a deal with Sony to acquire Bungie,[17][18] announced that Bungie is a digital-first company,[19][20] laid off 8% of the company in October 2023,[21] and laid off 17% of the company in July 2024.[22][23][24][25][26]
