This person is a former Bungie Employee

Everything will be gone long before me. When the first living thing was born, I was here, waiting. When the last living thing dies, my job is finished. I'll put the chairs on the tables, turn out the lights and lock the universe behind me when I leave.

Shishka, less commonly known as Chad Armstrong, is a former Bungie employee.[1] He worked on several Bungie Halo titles between 2004 and 2010, becoming and was one of the first Forum Ninjas on Bungie.net.[2]

He was well known for both his forum presence and his physical appearance, which was strikingly similar to Lord British.[3]

Bungie History[]

Shishka was a Bungie fan prior to being hired by the company, playing the Marathon series in the mid-1990s and attending fan events, such as LAN parties and Bungie FanFest.

In August 2004, Shishka was hanging out in the halo.bungie.org IRC chatroom when Bungie employee Lorraine McLees signed in looking for help with Halo 2 screenshots and other Halo 2 promotional art materials. Shishka, who was about to move to Seattle, offered to help out.

Shishka's first day at Bungie in 2004 was his second day living in Seattle, and lasted 36 hours, spilling over into the next day. His primary duty over the course of his two-year employment at Bungie was to keep McLees sane by helping her in the graphics and marketing area in any way possible. He created many of the Halo 2 swag and promotional material for the game, using his personal Halo 2 character in many of the game's screenshots.

During his time at Bungie, he also served as a Forum Ninja, developing a reputation as a strict-but-fair moderator. His "Take No Prisoners, Show No Mercy" approach to moderating the forums made him either highly looked upon or hated with a passion.

Near the beginning of 2007, Shishka left Bungie, moving to Texas to work at a new company, Certain Affinity.

On March 27, 2008, Bungie announced that Shishka would be returning to Bungie as the new Halo 3 multiplayer playlist designer. He was also reinstated as a Forum Ninja, but with the golden text of an employee. While he was performing his Halo 3 duties, he was also working on Halo: Reach as a multiplayer designer.

He left Bungie for the final time on August 9, 2010, sharing the news on his Facebook page. Shortly thereafter, he joined 343 Industries to work on Halo 4 and Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary.

Trivia[]

  • His full gamertag was once Shishka-BOB,[1] a reference to the BoB's from the Marathon series
  • "Shishka" is a Russian word, which means "cone" or "bump"
  • According to Shishka, he suggested that the feature to run both graphics engines simultaneously be shipped with Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary[4]
  • Shishka's favorite forum game was something he liked to call "Schadenfreude."[5] The game was live the second he asked someone to play it, with the user having to pick a number between 1 and 7 before a time limit. Whatever number the user chose would be how many days Shishka would ban them from the forums for breaking the rules.
