A real-life coin from the Rasputin Chamber Puzzle ARG. Uploaded by Mattyb.

The Warmind Rasputin ARG, sometimes referred to as the Rasputin Chamber Puzzle, was an alternate reality game (ARG) for the Destiny 2 expansion, Warmind, that was released simultaneously as the expansion on May 8, 2018. The ARG was created by Vicarious Visions in collaboration with Bungie.

After Warmind's release, players noticed several elements which were a little out of place in the game world, such as lore tidbits, small images around the map, and some suspicious computer consoles. By progressing the ARG, players unlocked in-game content, including the Sleeper Simulant, Worldline Zero, and G335 Overdrive Sparrow, and were eventually led to real-world items, including an actual Destiny Valkyrie, a letter, and dozens of Bray currency.

Rasputin Chamber Puzzle[]

Rasputin's AI is located in a large octohedron. The elements of the puzzle are found as you traverse around the region. The region has 3 classical songs and the tables have 3 words indicating 3 keys would be needed for the final vigenere cipher. The original puzzle piece to combine elements was found at the entrance to the octahedron. This was the first piece identified as the key element by players on Reddit at the raid secrets channel.[1] Further elements were compiled by other players in a megathread.[2]

Rasputin Chamber Analysis[]

The wall design yielded 6 distinct items: a ghost, a rectangle with 3 bars resembling a server terminal, a diamond, a speaker microphone, 3 bars, and a lock. These elements needed to be identified and combined in order to solve the puzzle.

REVERSE discovered

Symbol 1: Ghost[]

The ghost clue was thought to correlate with a number of ghost images around the map.

Ghost Clues

Several crates are found throughout the mars basin in game. They were compiled into an infographic by a few Reddit users.

Ghost Analysis

The figures were collected into a database as in the picture on the left, then ordered using the numbers beneath them. This forms the word REVERSE.

Server clues

Symbol 2: Server[]

The server appeared as an obvious choice given its relation to a diary that is given to the user immediately after completing the Warmind campaign.

Server Analysis

In the main guide, the server is connected to a Braille grid. A few crates have been found on Mars with Braille letters on them. The letters are OEAARRTFWTH, suspected to be an anagram of The Art Of War. Players found this to yield the sentence "Destroy all second A and B. Then destroy all third C and R" by using the page number, paragraph, word notation from the terminal in this thread.[3]

Diamond clues

Symbol 3: Diamond[]

The diamond clues were not actually inherently found to solve the puzzle. Leading options were blinking lights counting the number of flashes next to underlined characters around the map, audio terminals, or a hidden terminal.

The blinking light is next to this place with underlined letters found around the map.

Mechanized

The Sleeper Simulant's sights underlining the letters needed for the clue.

Diamond Analysis

This part was not actually found to solve the puzzle and the final solution was made without a complete anagram to solve. Thus there is no full analysis here. Only analysis done was the flashing light converting 1=a, 3=c, 13=m, 26=z. The final output is expected to yield an anagram for MECHANIZED.

In 2020, two players, Janavo and Bachmanetti,[4] solved this clue in-game by aiming the Sleeper Simulant exotic weapon at the diamond "CLOVIS BRAY" sign, and using the weapon's sights to underline the letters needed to spell MECHANIZED.

Speakers clues

Symbol 4: Speakers[]

The speaker element was given that name as a reference to looking like a speaker in the infographic.

Speakers Analysis

The image contains dots which were converted to Morse code which led to the sequence. NTEHNMLNEEGIT which was then anagrammed to ENLIGHTENMENT.

Bars clues

Symbol 5: Three Bars[]

The terminal for this was found near the end of the map on an upper room. The elements in it matched a way to do the Japanese notation. Players found[5] it transcribed to SWAN LAKE.

Rasp8

Bars Analysis

Three Bars Analysis

When transcribed it results in a nearly identical notation to the song of swan lake which was later confirmed by other players.

Lock clues - A terminal with text needed to be deciphered in Rasputin's chamber.

Symbol 6: Lock[]

Upon nearing completion of the tasks several reddit users found a final terminal cipher which needed the other information above to decode. This decoding eventually fell into the game detectives discord where several users worked on it.

Lock Analysis

The deciphering of the text was performed[6] in the order of the other events as found by the Reddit community. The ciphertext was reversed, then remove the 2nd a and b, as well as the third c and r. Then, 3 vigenere ciphers with 3 keys, MECHANIZED, ENLIGHTENMENT, and SWAN LAKE, are applied to the ciphertext in the order they are listed. This led to the following text:

thank you for taking the time to piece together this message, friend. the time of our final conflict is drawing closer and you and ana have an important role to play in the events to come. so watch over her, guardian. i would have no life without ana or the exoprogram. i regret that we have become strangers, but we each have a path that we must walk. and, ironically, there never seems to be enough time. tell her, rasputin's first attempt was in the right location, but the wrong moment. Look here: 43.549573, -73.544868 - This message appears to come from Destiny's Elsie Bray, the Exo Stranger.

Bray coins and a letter from Vicarious Visions

Sleeping Beauty[]

The coordinates 43.549573, -73.544868 pointed to the Sleeping Beauty Mountains north of Albany, NY, close to where developer Vicarious Visions is located.[7] Redditor I_love_science[8] was first to discover what lay at the coordinates: a stash of Warmind-themed goods.[9][10]

The stash contained a Valkyrie spear replica from the expansion, a cache of collectible numbered Clovis Bray coins, and a logbook for future visitors to sign.

In a letter accompanying the treasure from Vicarious Visions, explorers were encouraged to each take a single coin and record their names in the logbook.

Some players also set out to discover the secrets of Rasputin’s Chamber, and documented their adventures with a YouTube video.[11]
